Grafana Labs is hiring a remote Staff Software Engineer in Ireland to lead the technical direction of its Identity squad, redesigning authentication at the edge and evolving secure sign-in for millions of users.

Grafana Labs (the company behind the open observability cloud) is a 100% remote company building Grafana Cloud, a fully managed observability platform. This Staff Software Engineer role sits in the Identity and Access team’s Identity squad, which owns the authentication layer across both open-source and proprietary codebases.

You’ll define architecture and lead multi-quarter initiatives for Grafana’s authentication systems, including an edge authentication redesign, working with protocols and flows such as OAuth 2.1/OIDC, SAML, LDAP, and SCIM. The role is expected to focus roughly 55% on backend development (Golang), 25% on technical leadership and cross-team collaboration, and 20% on operations and reliability.
